Strategy with a Storyteller's Brain

About

Growing up, I was always creative, but I also knew I wanted work that challenged me intellectually. When I started college, I wasn't entirely sure what that looked like. What I did know was that I was fascinated by social media, not just as something people used, but as something businesses hadn't yet fully figured out.

After more Google searches than I'd like to admit, I discovered that the intersection of communications, marketing, and strategy had a name: public relations. On a whim, I applied for a PR & Marketing Coordinator position at a luxury salon while I was still in school. I got the job, and somewhere between writing press releases, managing social media, and learning the business from the inside out, I realized I'd accidentally found the career I'd been looking for.

While working full-time in marketing and communications, I earned my B.A. in Communication (Public Relations), followed by an M.A. in Professional Communication. More than a decade later, that curiosity has evolved into a career spanning brand strategy, content systems, executive communications, AI, higher education, and integrated marketing.

Looking back, I think what interested me wasn't social media itself. It was watching an entirely new way of communicating take shape. That's still what I enjoy most today: understanding complex ideas, finding the thread that connects them, and building the systems that help other people understand them too.

How I Work

Binder clips on a pink background representing organization and structure.

Structure

I like turning messy problems into systems people can use.

Notebook, sticky notes, and pen representing story development.

Story

Every technical idea has a human story. Finding it is my favorite part.

Edited pages and markup representing collaborative refinement.

Collaboration

Great ideas rarely fail because they're bad. They fail because people aren't speaking the same language.

Charts and planning materials representing business outcomes.

Impact

Creativity isn't the finish line. Results are.

Performance Review

Strengths

Turns messy ideas into clear systems

Bridges creative and business thinking

Can explain almost anything with a whiteboard

Gives pep talks to nervous salespeople before major presentations

Genuinely enjoys difficult communication problems

Needs Improvement

Occasionally believes one more font adjustment will solve everything

Has been known to reorganize already-organized documents

Has accepted that this is probably who she is now

Life Outside Strategy

Outside of work, you’ll usually find me planning my next trip around where I’m going to eat, experimenting with typography, painting, reading, or sinking an unreasonable number of hours into a video game. I also have a habit of turning “small creative hobbies” into full production schedules, because apparently rest is a concept I respect in theory.

I've always been fascinated by how people think, communicate, and make decisions. Branding, psychology, design, and storytelling all scratch that same itch, which, in hindsight, probably made strategy inevitable.
